Numerologically 2008 is a One year – a year for new beginnings. It is only appropriate that we should set the stage by creating goals. What would you like to accomplish this year? How much are you willing to let go of in order to reach your goals? Have you ever looked at goal setting from this perspective before?

This is one of the Universal Laws which works in tandem with the Law of Attraction. It’s called the Law of the Vacuum. Nature and The Universe abhors a vacuum, so it will always seek to fill one up as quickly as possible. Think about your closet – no matter how often you throw out or recycle the drycleaner hangers, more keep multiplying there, so you get an idea of how this works.

So, if you want to accomplish your goals quickly, it just makes sense that you should clear a space in which to produce your new conscious creations. At a very basic level, this can be just releasing the baggage that no longer serves you anyway. Before I go shopping for new clothes, it’s my habit to go through my closet and give away the ones which don’t fit me anymore, or anything I haven’t worn in the last 18 months. Someone else needs them more than me so I donate them with love and joy.

Many times as we do the personal inventory required to figure out what needs to be released, this will point out areas that are ripe for creation – ideas we hadn’t considered previously. This is how our Higher Self works: while we focus our conscious mind on a task such as house cleaning (whether it’s for our physical house or our emotional one), our Higher Self is then free to guide us toward our higher good with moments of inspiration, because the conscious mind is temporarily engaged as it performs a routine task.

Here is an example: For the last few weeks I have been taking inventory of the beliefs and actions that aren’t appropriate in my life going forward and which I don’t want to carry with me into the New Year. A couple of these are a) the belief that I am not taken seriously and b) the belief that I can’t have what I want. There are actions I’ve been doing which have held these beliefs in place in my life. Because I held the thought of not being taken seriously, I haven’t promoted my classes to a larger audience or even outside of my home town. (Marianne Williamson would call this “living small”.) And because I haven’t believed I could have what I want, I haven’t yet been able to find the proper literary agent or publisher for my new book.  I did an InnerSpeak session on myself to clear these away, and I found the source of these beliefs to have come from a past life in the early 1700’s where I died during my own birth. The birth process was too difficult for me and I didn’t survive it. Now, here I am trying to give birth to a new dimension of my career and these two beliefs, hundreds of years and many lifetimes old, are potentially holding me back.  I now bundle them up and life them to the Universe to be cleared away. See how simple this can be?

Now it is time to fill up the void created by releasing the inappropriate thought patterns. I am scheduling InnerSpeak classes in several large venues and several cities outside Atlanta for 2008. I’ve started this moving by re-writing the class materials as well as finding hosts to organize and promote the classes. I’ve dressed up my submittal letter for my new book and sent it out to several agents and potential publishers. Remember the axiom, “God helps those who help themselves?” I’m doing my part and leaving the rest up to God!

Here is a mediation you can try to allow this to work in your life. Get comfortable and close your eyes as you take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Relax as you allow a warm sensation to love and pure light to fill and surround you. In your imagination, create an altar in front of you. On this altar, place two beautiful vessels. Into the vessel on the left, allow all the thoughts and beliefs which no longer serve you and which you are ready to release to flow from you and fill the vessel up. Now watch as a wonderful Angel comes and lifts this vessel away. As you observe as the Witness, just watch as the vessel on the right is slowly filled with pure love and light, with new ideas, blessings and gifts just for you. Open your heart to receive and give thanks.

Now you are ready to begin crafting your goals and resolutions for 2008, secure in the knowledge that they are already yours in your Year of New Beginnings and be grateful!
