Connecting With Your Inner Goddess
Each woman has her own connection to her femininity. This can be a strong part of her that she is consciously and intentionally aware of, or it can be a belief that has falsely been placed upon her. The Divine Feminine energy was once revered by all. It was honored. It was celebrated by all. Take this time in this group to once again bring through and understand your own relationship with your female power.
What is the Goddess?
The Goddess has many different facets that create her energy. The very first female form upon the Earth took on the spirit of Mother Earth. She embodied everything that a mother should – compassion, nurturing, unconditional love, strength, humor, beauty, abundance, and protection. The female was much like the Earth herself, and their roles continue to parallel one another today.
Think of how the Earth carries these very same qualities – protection, abundance, love, strength. They are very much the same of the female spirit. And just as the Earth is moving and shifting its energies and exploding with fire without warning, so can a woman with her emotion.
Every Goddess Has a Name…
Each religion and belief system has their own perspective on the Divine Feminine. You will find that many Goddesses are similar or basically have the same roles yet they have different names. It matters not what they are called. What truly matters is the energy they convey and how you interpret such energy. Each Goddess brings forth gifts from home, be it safety, love, beauty, good health, or such. These gifts personify all aspects of women – what we are, what we always have been and what we will forever be.
The Feminine Form
There has been much great debate on what is “beautiful” in regards to the physical aspect of the feminine form. The standards have changed year from year, country from country, and culture from culture.
In the early days of mankind, women were not expected to fit any certain archetype. Things were not as they are today with our histories and repression. Women were equal and took on equal roles alongside masculine counterparts. Their shapes were not all the same. They had different heights, different hair colors, and different weights. But the biggest difference in all this is that THEY WERE ALL ACCEPTED. They were accepted just as they were by all within their communities and most of all they accepted themselves.
Take that in for a minute…Self Acceptance. Where do you stand on this subject? What do these words make you feel? Are you proud of the person you are or do you criticize yourself and doubt? What would you like to change about that?
Think of what it must have been like in those first days! How exciting. We had been energy (souls) that decided to play this human game (physical). As a soul, we had never taken on the human form before. We had to acclimate our energy into the physical. We had to become comfortable with using our newfound “senses”.
Imagine what it was like to suddenly be in a physical form for the first time. What would it be like? To suddenly be able to see, hear, touch, taste and smell all within the physical must have really been incredible. Talk about a sensual experience. No wonder these senses were looked at as gifts and treated as such. Nothing was taken for granted. Taste was intentional. Sight and sound were intentional. Touch was intentional. All these senses were savored like a fine wine. It became practice to honor these senses within each other.
What do you consider to be sensual? Does sensual always mean sexual, or are they different?
Remember, the senses were honored – not the measurements of the waist or bust line. The earliest sculptures and figurines of the feminine form have very large stomachs, big saggy breasts and thick thighs. Not exactly what you would find on the cover of Vogue nowadays, but this was a most striking sight to behold. A woman’s large stomach meant she was fertile and abundant. Big breasts signified she was nurturing and could provide nourishment. Thick thighs represented her strength and power. Put these all together and what do you have? B-E-A-U-T-Y.
The Roles of Women
The roles of women have changed through the centuries. We have been counterparts to the male energy – the balance of male/female, yin/yang. Women have been hunters, healers, mothers, seductresses, victim, slave, leader, and so on and so forth.
The feminine energy has gone through much transition. Once looked at as powerful, that power was then feared and had to be caged and even eliminated – look at the times of inquisition, of witch hunts, and of massacre. Our sisters were persecuted simply by expressing their power. If you believed that honoring the moon could help your health, or that flowers could assist healing, or calling in the elements would clear insight you were deemed “witch”, “evil” or “traitor”. As new religions came into play, standard were put in place to keep people in line with these beliefs. Feminine power was not recognized and revered as it once was and those women who sought out to practice their own ways defied the Church and paid for it dearly, many times with their lives and the lives of those they loved.
Women have transitioned from living in their power as equals, to being trained and subdued (put in their place), to fighting for their rights to be like men, to being so confused about their own feminine role. It can be mind boggling when you really think about it.
How many of us have listened to the females in our family about their lifetimes and what was acceptable and what was not? How many of us have been “put in our place” simply because of our gender?
Take the time for self exploration to look inside and see what comes through as to your own beliefs on the Divine Feminine. Do you feel empowered by this concept? Does it scare you? Is it difficult for you to define? Is it beautiful? Look within and feel your emotions about this subject. Allow Mother God to wrap her love around you and help you find your answers. ~*~
